Background: C13orf24 is also known as Progesterone-induced-blocking factor 1 (PIBF1). PIBF1 is synthesized by lymphocytes of healthy pregnant women in the presence of progesterone and inhibits arachidonic acid release, by acting on the phospholipase A2 enzyme, inducing a Th2 biased immune response. It also controls NK activity, and modifies the cytokine balance exerting an anti-abortive effect.
